Applications

LivingWood strips and boards are suitable for virtually any interior surface.

LivingWood 23mm strips are generally used for new or replacement applications and are usually 'secret' or 'top' nailed onto joists, alternatively they can be fixed to concrete with wood-block adhesive.

LivingWood 10mm strips are recommended for covering new or existing strong flat surfaces such as old floorboards, concrete or chipboard. They can be either pinned and stuck to existing floors, or laid on top of them to create a 'floating floor'.

LivingWood 18mm boards are used for either new or replacement applications and are suitable for  'secret' or 'top' nailing onto joists, alternatively they can be fixed to concrete with wood-block adhesive or floated.

A "floating" floor, or "raft", is a floor which is not fixed to the sub-surface.  It is formed by gluing LivingWood strips or boards together on a cushioning underlay above a rigid substructure, like existing floorboards.

Typical applications;

Existing flat, dry and stable concrete:-     LivingWood 10mm or 18mm fixed directly with wood-block adhesive, or laid as a floating floor.

Existing wooden or chipboard floor in good, flat condition:-   LivingWood 10mm or 18mm, pinned and glued with PVA, or as a floating floor.

Existing  dry, stable concrete with some minor bumps, ridges or troughs:-   Depends on how 'minor' the bumps are. When no more than 2mm, use self leveling compound and lay a LivingWood 10mm or 18mm floating floor. The underlay will compensate for small irregularities. When greater than 2mm, consider either re-screeding or laying battens and following the procedure suggested for new or replacement joists.

Existing, flat, dry but unstable concrete floor:-   LivingWood 10mm or 18mm floating floor on underlay.

Existing wooden floor in good condition:-   LivingWood 10mm or 18mm, either glued and pinned or as a floating floor.  Worm-affected floorboards should be treated or replaced, depending on the extent of the infestation, before laying the new floor.

Existing, but rotten wooden floor:-   Remove the floorboards and inspect the joists. Treat or replace as necessary.  If joists are no more than 40cm apart, lay LivingWood 18 or 23mm.

New or replacement joists:-   18 or 23mm secret nailed, or cover with chipboard and lay 10 or 18mm as above
