Pre-finished Boards are pre-treated and will require no further on-site treatments. However, unfinished strips and boards will require treating and finishing on site.

Chestnut is resistant to woodworm and does not require preventative treatment in dry applications.

In kitchens, it should be treated with LivingWood Biocide-free Wax Impregnated Protector, which seals the grain from water-borne mildew.  In bathrooms, it should be treated twice.  However, in all cases, standing water should still be removed promptly. Oak is vulnerable to worm and should be treated with one coat of LivingWood Biocide-free Wax Impregnated Protector.

Unfinished LivingWood strips and boards are supplied and fitted in their natural state. Having laid the floor, all scuff-marks should be removed before applying the finish.  We recommend the application of LivingWood Hard Wax Oil.

So tough and resilient , it is used on the public area strip-floors at Heathrow Airport.  This should be is applied sparingly with a firm, broad paint brush and left to dry overnight in a warmed room. Drying takes longer in cold conditions. Rubbing down is generally unnecessary between coats. After applying a  second coat, the floor should be ready for use after about 10 hours in warm conditions. This will produce an attractive matt/satin sheen.  For a pure satin finish, the floor can be buffed with fine steel wool or by machine.  If a glossy finish is required, apply  LivingWood Coloured Liquid Wax Cleaner and Polish.

LivingWood Hard Wax Oil is a low odour, vegetable oil and wax-based colourless finish.  It enhances the natural beauty of LivingWood strips by encouraging a rich, clear patina.  Being microporous, LivingWood Hard Wax Oil will not crack, flake, peel or blister; it is resistant to spillages like wine, beer, cola, tea, coffee, juices, milk and water. It does not contain biocides or preservatives, and conforms to EEC safety standards.

If the finish becomes scratched, simply rub the immediate area with a cloth damped with Hard Wax Oil and leave overnight.  If the finish becomes worn where traffic is concentrated, such as in doorways, simply clean and apply new coats as necessary.

In some instances, a lacquer finish may be desired. A variety of matt, semi-matt and gloss lacquers are available, which may be applied by brush.
